After yet another altercation with Eugénie Krantz, Verlaine settled again at the Hôtel de Lisbonne in mid-September 1894. His friend Frédéric-Auguste Cazals was also staying there.

Verlaine met William Henry Heinemann (1863.1920) in November 1893 during his lecture series in England.
