The Marquis de Sade died on Friday December 2, 1814 at the Hospice de Charenton. In defiance of his testamentary provisions, the Marquis was buried religiously in the cemetery of the house of Charenton. A few years later, when the cemetery was moved, the body of the Marquis was exhumed. On this occasion, Dr LJ Ramon had his skull returned to him in order to study it. Dr. Spurzheim then borrowed the skull, made a cast of it – today kept in the anthropology laboratory of the Musée de l'Homme – and exhibited the original during his conferences in Europe before apparently misplacing it. -he in Germany or America.
