On May 8, 1880, Gustave Flaubert died suddenly in his home in Croisset, struck by a devastating stroke.
His burial in the monumental cemetery of Rouen took place on May 11, 1880, in the presence of numerous writers recognizing him as their master.
Emile Zola wrote a long text in Le Figaro, the beginning of which is as follows: “ The death of Gustave Flaubert was love at first sight for us all! »
