Marcel Proust attended Albert Sorel's (1842-1906) course in Diplomatic History in 1890 at the École Libre des Sciences Politiques (Sciences Po). He retained a profound admiration for the historian, a member of the Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques (Academy of Moral and Political Sciences). Sorel, for his part, had been singularly struck by his student, in whom he sensed exceptional literary gifts. In 1904, he published a highly laudatory article in Le Temps devoted to Marcel Proust's study of the Amiens Bible , for which Proust remained eternally grateful.
