“We are right, Madam Marquise, to say that there is nothing so stupid as a copyist. I had the pleasure of recently passing along to you some little verses that had been sent to me from Prussia ; I gave them to my secretary to make a copy for you. The animal made eighty mistakes. I won't waste a minute to correct his stupidity. I flatter myself that you will find this copy infinitely less bad than the last one. If I'm wrong, let me know, I'll look for a better copyist. This one, however, comes directly from Poland, according to what he told me.
