“My dear Georges, I assure you that your letter has lifted an inevitable weight from my heart. Alas, I have others, each day more crushing, which nothing will ever take away. But finally, in the sense that this word can have, your letter has brought me undeniable happiness, not so much in this absence of attacks, which may be fortuitous, but in Gilbert's opinion that the operation was unnecessary, and especially in its urgency, which proves that we had been overthinking everything. May all the days to come answer this, may the medical treatment suffice, and may your mother, in one way or another, finally look upon a life that your affection and talent will make so sweet and so proud. With all my heart, Marcel. I have discovered a delightful poet: his name is Lafontaine.”
