“My dear Georges, I thought a lot about you when I learned of the death of your uncle [Jules-Edouard de Wynckele (1850.1913)]. I believe he was your mother's brother, and because of that he must have been the repository of a thousand memories, even memories of the time when your mother was not yet your mother. Perhaps even in certain physical features he recalled her. Perhaps you also think of the sorrow she would have had [sic] (although undoubtedly the great sorrow for her would have been if she knew that she was leaving you and that you would be so unhappy). Finally Georges, there is not a single feeling that you may have experienced that my worried and ill-informed tenderness did not feel. Present my respectful homage to Madame de Lauris and to your father. Marcel Proust. »
