Shoemaker Raymond Massaro (1929-2019), virtuoso of custom-made shoes, was the official supplier to the most prestigious French haute couture houses: Chanel, Madame Grès, Thierry Mugler, Azzedine Alaïa, Christian Lacroix, etc. He was president of the National Chamber of Bootmakers and vice-president of the National Leather Council. In 1957, Massaro created, at the request of Gabrielle Chanel, the legendary two-tone pump with elastic strap, a timeless, flagship of the house. Since then, clear plastic pumps, jeweled sandals, cork platforms, ankle boots, beaded heels, boots, etc. have become popular. were born from the collaboration of the shoemaker and Karl Lagerfeld. In 2002, Chanel bought the Massaro house in order to protect the French know-how of this luxury craftsmanship, at the service of its collections.
