Juan GREY (1887.1927)

Autograph letter signed to the art dealer Léonce Rosenberg.

Beaulieu. July 17, 1918.

“I pay attention to three things in particular: the organization of my space, the balance of my painting and the expression of my subject. »

Very beautiful letter from Juan Gris to his dealer discussing his painting work.

“My dear friend, I did not respond immediately to your kind letter which accompanied the sending of money because I was finishing a painting and by stopping work late I was tired to write . The sign did not give me work, and knowing that it pleased you and the doctor is sufficient remuneration for me. What you tell me about painting is very true. I think like this because when working I pay attention to three things in particular: the organization of my space, the balance of my painting and the expression of my subject. I think it is a bit imprudent to send such considerable sums of money in a registered letter. If it were to be lost, the Post Office compensation is 25 francs. It should be sent in declared values. It costs maybe two cents more for a stamp and the post office compensates the entire value in the event of loss. I hope Mrs. Rosenberg and your children are still doing well. You will send my respects to Madame and for you, my dear friend, my best friendship. Juan Gris.”
