Jean Cocteau (1889.1963)

Original signed drawing.

One quarto page laminated on strong cardboard (20.50 x 27 cm)

Tiny stain on the lower left margin.

Slnd [probably 1948].

Very beautiful drawing by Cocteau – covering two thirds of the page – done in colored pencils for the illustration of his work Les Parents terribles.

In the lower third of the document, Cocteau adds these few lines in blue pen:

“Dear Mr. Georges, You asked me for a photograph – and I don’t have a good one on hand. I thought you would enjoy this sketch for a cover. A thousand wishes from Jean Cocteau. »

Les Parents terribles is a play by Cocteau created in November 1938 at the Théâtre des Ambassadeurs. Quickly banned from performance, the play was revived at the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens before being suspended again in October 1941 under pressure from the collaborationist press. In order to preserve the memory of his work, Cocteau made a film of it in 1948.

The authenticity of this work was confirmed by Madame Annie Guédras.
