"Your letter of yesterday informs us of the purchase of the 10 casks from Mr. Hémart. 300 francs less a 3% discount, which is the best price. We regret to learn that his health is so precarious that it is urgent to expedite the delivery of these wines . We therefore invite you to receive them without delay so that you can send them to our house in Épernay, who will send their carrier upon your notification. After the New Year, and once the wines are clear, you can do the same for all the wines purchased on our behalf in the three locations. Sincerely yours."

In 1785, in Reims, Florens-Louis Heidsieck founded the Heidsieck & Cie Champagne cloth and wine trading house . Upon Florens-Louis Heidsieck's death in 1828, his nephew and successor, Christian Heidsieck, partnered with Henri-Guillaume Piper. He died in 1835, and Henri-Guillaume Piper married his widow in 1838. The Piper-Heidsieck name originated from this union.
From Habsburg princes to the emperors of China, fourteen royal or imperial courts granted the House of Piper-Heidsieck the privilege of "official supplier." Throughout the world, high society desired "Piper wine, made by Heidsieck.".
