“My dear colleague, I am sending you herewith a sealed envelope submitted by my son [Jean Becquerel] and relating to a fact that he has observed for several months and which appears to be fundamental. However, my son would like to explore its various particularities in more detail before publishing it, and we would be very grateful if you would ask the academy to accept, at its next meeting, the deposit of this sealed envelope. I take this opportunity to send you, with my anticipated thanks, the respectful expression of my most sincerely devoted feelings. Henri Becquerel. »
