“Dear Sir, I am sorry to learn that your father has fallen ill and is suffering cruelly . Being far from home adds to the difficulty of this situation, and I understand very well that in these circumstances you cannot abandon your father or your mother.

I hope you will find yourself named when you return to Paris; we must vote for you tomorrow at the Museum , and the ministerial nomination will not be long in coming, I have every reason to believe it.

Please offer my most respectful compliments to your father and tell him how much I share in his sad situation. Please also present my respectful homage to your mother and always believe me to be very cordial to you. Henri Becquerel. This morning I did the first lesson of the course at the Museum. »
