"My dear Tesse, I apologize a thousand times for the trouble I have unintentionally caused you. Given the necessity of exhibiting only three paintings, I felt I had to withdraw for reasons I will explain later. Thank you for your extreme kindness, which I hope I will not have to put you through again in such a tiresome and pointless way, and please believe me, yours truly, Gustave Moreau.
