Gustave CAILLEBOTTE (1848.1894)

Autographed letter signed to Claude Monet.

Two pages in-12° on engraved paper with his address.

Petit Gennevilliers. Undated.

Gustave Caillebotte declined financial assistance requested by his friend Claude Monet.

“My dear friend, I went to Paris yesterday, but all the troubles always come together. Right now, I haven't received more than a third of the April rents. My tenants are in the same boat as you , and all I can do is wait. I've had to postpone payments to contractors who were asking me for money until July. You know very well, by the way, that whenever I could, I've never refused you, but today I assure you I can't —until July. Yours truly, G. Caillebotte.”
