Moving photos representing Simenon, in Lausanne, a few days after his brain operation in 1984.

Each of the photographs, sent to his doctor François Aguet, is annotated by the novelist on the back. One of them even had a signed dedication.

The first two photographs show Simenon seated, a large bandage cap on his head, smoking his trusty pipe. On the back of the photos, GS annotates:

“4th day after the operation. »

“4th day later. To Dr Aguet, with the recognition and friendship of G. Simenon. »

The third photograph is annotated in Simenon's hand, on the back:

“5th day later. »

The last two photographs show him, at home, without his bandage. On the back of each is noted:

“12th day later”

Square format: 8 x 8 cm.

Simenon died on September 4, 1989 at n°12 avenue des Figuiers, in Lausanne. He died there in the morning, peaceful, holding the hand of Teresa, his last companion. He allegedly told her: “ Now I will finally be able to sleep. » Suffering from a brain tumor, he was operated on in 1984. Partially paralyzed. He only got around in a wheelchair. Testimonies confirm that from 1987, the writer found himself greatly diminished. He was no longer able to light his pipe himself.
