General Maxime WEYGAND (1867.1965)

Autograph letter signed to the Director of the Revue Indépendante.

Two oblong octavo pages on paper with its number. Paris. October 31, 1948.

Weygand supports a candidacy for the Academy.

“Mr. Director, Your entire literary work is sufficient, in my opinion, to justify a decision of the French Academy in its favor. I will therefore support your candidacy. The independence of your Review is another title that I greatly appreciate in this time of servility. Finally, the old soldier that I am cannot forget your war service records. I thank you for sending me the issue of the Independent Review which contains the much too laudatory article by Cdt Le Roch.
Please, Mr. Director, accept the expression of my best and most distinguished feelings. Weygand. »

The Revue Indépendante was founded by George Sand, Pierre Leroux and Louis Viardot in 1841.
