François MAURIAC (1885.1970)

Autograph letter signed to Marcel Thiébaut, director of the Revue de Paris.

Mauriac and the publication of his novel The Desert of Love.

« “Dear sir, I am very obliged to you for being willing to judge favorably this desert , the crossing of which I hope will not seem too difficult to your readers! Page 8, don't you think that typography should prepare them for this sudden awakening in the little bar? For example two lines of points…. I report to you. I still have not received anything from the Review . Counting on this return to school, I myself had made promises which put me in the greatest embarrassment. Please excuse my insistence that this be sent to me as soon as possible. Sincerely. Mauriac »

The Desert of Love was written by Mauriac between January and September 1924. Initially published as a serial in La Revue de Paris , at the end of 1924, it was published by Éditions Grasset the following year and was awarded the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie French in 1926.
