Bacon in my mirror #3

Magnificent photomontage produced by Michel Giniès in 2019, based on his original photos dated 1987.

Michel Giniès photographed Francis Bacon during the opening of his exhibition at the Maeght-Lelong gallery in September 1987.

A few years later, after the death of the British artist, he decided to continue his exploration of the Baconian universe in the light of the famous round mirror which decorated the back of the studio at 7 Reece Mews.

Michel Giniès obtains old cracked, pitted and beveled mirrors and begins to photograph his previously cut-out images. We discover Bacon's distorted reflection in the mirrors. Photographic attempt at transformation, doubling, distortion of the face. This series – comprising a dozen images – begun in 2014 ended in 2019 with the creation of a final photo of Francis Bacon in the middle of the round mirror, like a completed loop.
