Bacon in my mirror #2

Magnificent photomontage created by Michel Giniès in 2019, from his original photos dated 1987.

Michel Giniès photographed Francis Bacon at the opening of his exhibition at the Maeght-Lelong gallery in September 1987.

A few years later, after the death of the British artist, he decided to continue his exploration of the Baconian universe using the famous round mirror that adorned the back of the studio at 7 Reece Mews.

Michel Giniès acquired antique mirrors that were cracked, pitted, and beveled, and began photographing these images after they had been cut out. The distorted reflection of Bacon in the mirrors is revealed. This photographic attempt at transformation, doubling, and distortion of the face, comprising a dozen images, began in 2014 and ended in 2019 with the creation of a final photograph of Francis Bacon in the center of a round mirror, like a circle completed.
