Cyrano's father copies a quatrain in Alexandrines taken from Act II of Chantecler.

I think of light and not of glory.

Singing is my way of fighting and believing;

And if of all songs my song is the proudest,

It’s because I sing clearly so that it’s clear!

Chantecler (Act II)
