Charles De Gaulle (1890.1970)

Typed letter signed to Jean Lanet.

One page in quarto on his letterhead. June 17, 1953.

Beautiful letter from the General following the electoral defeat of May 1953.

"My dear comrade, Your new letter, for which I thank you, proves to me that you fully grasp the gravity of our country's current situation. Those who see clearly have a duty to awaken the attention of others and enlighten them about our objectives. This is your task as a comrade and, for all of us in the Rally, the only way to prepare for national renewal. Believe me, my dear comrade, in my warmest regards."

In 1947, General de Gaulle founded the Rally of the French People (RPF).

In the 1953 local elections, the RPF lost half of its votes and, on May 6, 1953, General de Gaulle gave the parliamentarians their freedom after the results of the municipal elections where the RPF lost several of the cities it had won in 1947.
