A moving and rare document signed by Gabrielle Chanel for the renewal of the lease of her first boutique on the French Riviera, in the Villa Numa Blanc, Boulevard de la Croisette, in Cannes.

The love affair between Gabrielle Chanel and the Cannes region had already begun a few years earlier, since it was in these places that her first perfume, the mythical Chanel N°5, was born in 1921. In 1926, during one of her stays on the French Riviera with Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich of Russia, she decided to open a couture workshop at the Villa Numa Blanc.

Desired by Chanel, this first boutique on the French Riviera would be the site of the first sale of the iconic "little black dress", created in 1926.

In a letter written to his mother in 1929, Jean Cocteau mentioned the success of this boutique: "Chanel doesn't want recommendations and she specifically asked me not to recommend anyone to her. Furthermore, I know that the Cannes boutique is full because Marcelle Garros is already overstaffed."

Coco Chanel's autographed documents are extremely rare.
