“Mademoiselle, I thank you for your wishes which were very meaningful to me and I send you mine in these first days of a year from which we can hope for Victory. In war as in Peace, the tasks will be numerous ; be sure that I will eventually be able to call on your dedication of which you have given so much proof. Please accept, Mademoiselle, the expression of my respectful feelings. C. de Gaulle. »

We attach the draft letter of wishes from Y. Salmon addressed to the General on December 26, 1944:

My General, in this year when our long hope is beginning to become reality, the wishes that I form for our country are intimately linked to those that I form for you yourself [… ] What we owe to your clairvoyance, to your perseverance , to your French mind is now obvious to all. My pride in having worked with you from the first days is great, I assure you.

The Alliance Française having now been handed over to its board of directors chaired by Georges Duhamel, the essential part of my role there has ended; and if you think that I could serve more usefully anywhere else I am entirely at your disposal , and would be happy to fulfill any task that you deem necessary either for the continuation of the war or for the reconstruction of the country. May God give you and yours happiness and health so that your mission can be accomplished. These are the wishes that I and mine form for the new year. »
