A beautiful letter from General de Gaulle, foreseeing victory over Nazi Germany at the dawn of 1945.

"Mademoiselle, I thank you for your kind wishes, which I deeply appreciated, and I send you my own in these first days of a year in which we can hope for Victory. In war as in peace, the tasks will be numerous ; rest assured that I will know how to call upon your devotion, of which you have given so many proofs. Please accept, Mademoiselle, the expression of my respectful sentiments. C. de Gaulle."

We are attaching the draft of Y. Salmon's letter of greetings addressed to the General on December 26, 1944:
“ My General, in this year when our long-held hope begins to become reality, the wishes I express for our country are intimately linked to those I express for you personally […] What we owe to your foresight, your perseverance, your French spirit is now evident to all. My pride in having worked with you from the very beginning is immense, I assure you.”
The Alliance Française now being placed in the hands of its board of directors, chaired by Georges Duhamel, the essential part of my role there is complete; and if you think I could be of more useful service anywhere else, I am entirely at your disposal and would be happy to undertake any task you deem necessary, whether for the continuation of the war or for the reconstruction of the country. May God grant you and yours happiness and health so that your mission may be accomplished. These are the wishes that my family and I express for the new year.
