Charles de GAULLE (1890.1970)

Autograph letter signed to his brother-in-law Jacques Vendroux.

Three pages in-8°. Without place. April 30, 1922.

Rare letter from Charles de Gaulle's youth, dated from the early 1920s, mentioning the “strong head ” of his young son Philippe, then aged 4 months.

“My dear Jacques, if my holiday wishes come to you a little late, it will not be their fault. They are deeply sincere and affectionate and boil down to those that the future for you resembles the present ( Jacques had married a few days earlier, on April 18, 1922, Marie-Élisabeth Bellaigue, nicknamed Cada ). Your nephew was very sensitive, have no doubt, to your memory. It’s his party too; her first party! He celebrated by drinking a little more than usual. But he already has a strong head. Please share, my dear Jacques, with Cada, my thoughts, as affectionate as they are sensitive, and see you soon, we very much hope, the great pleasure of seeing you both again. Charles de Gaulle.”
