Superb abstract drawing dedicated to the Belgian surrealist artist, Théodore Koenig.

 

On the back of the drawing, Chaissac wrote a poem dedicated to Malraux.

Eight verses signed and dated from Saint Florence, September 16, 1959.

The barrier is broken

 and the wheel of thunder

 neighbor the aviary

 who cries the rooster of the fricassee

 to celebrate abundance

 of the rocky country

 where luck smiled

 after the calamitous times

 Gaston Chaissac.

 

Théodore Kœnig (1922-1996), Belgian poet, ceramist, surrealist collage artist, was the co-founder of the journal Phantomas in 1953, a converging factor between Dada, Cobra and Surrealism.
