“Dear Elise, I am deeply touched by your note and very proud and moved to have had you as my audience yesterday, but sorry not to have seen you . I lead a foolish life of work, and the hours, days, and months pass. , that I have often thought of you with the intention of coming to see you! But now you will not escape it and will see me arrive any moment. You are still young, and so am I, but we will grow even younger through memories. And then, when they have recovered from the flu that struck the house, I want you to meet my wife and daughters, although they are jealous of the great, deep, and respectful affection that I will always have for you.
