(Arthur RIMBAUD) – Vitalie RIMBAUD (1858.1875)

Precious Rimbaldian relic.

Vitalie Rimbaud's first communion certificate. May 15, 1870.

Images engraved on steel forming a double triptych, enhanced with gold, framed with a border of paper lace.

It is signed twice by the poet's little sister and dated May 15, 1870.

Illustrated with edifying images engraved on steel, the certificate is printed in black and gold (Paris, Ch. Letaille printing house). It is in the form of a double triptych, framed with a border of paper lace. On the first course: My first communion. Second: My resolutions – with handwritten addition “ of piety and obedience ” in the text.

The first triptych open, the side parts indicate My promises and My consecration to Mary. They each bear the signature “ V. Rimbaud ”.

On the central panel, two handwritten dates: “ June twenty-second, 1858 ”, for the Memory of my baptism, and “ October 8, 1871 ”, for the Memory of my confirmation.

This central panel opens again in the form of a triptych on the image of a ciborium, revealing Christ as a filigree, and this sentence “ I am faithful, be faithful too ”.

Below this divine figure: Memory of my first communion, with the handwritten date of “ May fifteenth, 1870 ”.

Exceptional document, miraculously preserved despite its vulnerability.
Small unimportant losses at two corners of the paper lace.

Jeanne Rosalie Vitalie, fourth child of the Rimbauds, was born on May 15, 1858. A student at the convent of the Saint-Sépulcre in Charleville, she died on December 18, 1875, at the age of seventeen. Arthur Rimbaud, deeply affected by this death, attended his funeral with a shaved head.
