Portrait of a person smoking a cigarette; probably that of the writer and journalist André David (1899-1988) whose address in Beverly Hills was noted by Saint-Exupéry at the top of the page: " 23 South Reeves Drive Beverly Hills California".

André David founded the "Ambassadors' Conferences" to promote French culture. At the beginning of the Second World War, he was able to take refuge in the United States where he directed the French Institute founded in Hollywood by Charles Boyer.

Alongside the drawing, Saint-Exupéry wrote his name and his New York address: “St Ex 240 Central P[ark]”.
