“My dear Hellens, I received your manuscript, I read it and took it to Grasset . I don't know when Daniel Halévy will read it, because Brun, based on what I told him about it, seemed very eager to read it, and took it away. I don't believe, moreover, that you can be fixed on the 15th: the various readers are on vacation until the 11th. Anyway, we will see and I will keep you informed.

I really liked the Love Rivalries line As soon as I see DH, I'll tell him about this novel. It is not impossible that he is interested in it, despite the large number of pages (obviously larger than that of the Green Notebooks). We will talk about this too in a few days, if you can still come to Paris on the 15th and we will finally be able to talk in detail about your book. See you soon and very cordially to you. Malraux »

Hellens published The Shared Woman , by Grasset, in the fall of 1929.
