My dear Jouhandeau , Yes, very eager to see you again. Will you come have lunch with me on Thursday? Without any fuss. I am all alone at the Villa and will receive you as a bohemian, as a comrade – and very affectionately. If you can't, give me a phone call, one of these mornings, around 9:30 a.m. (Auteuil 0455) so that we can make another appointment. Your friend. Andre Gide. »

Marcel Jouhandeau – Correspondence with André Gide , Éditions Marcel Sautier, 1958 – Letter 4, page 12.

In the said volume of correspondence, Jouhandeau prefaces the letter with this mention: “ I went at the appointed time to Villa Montmorency, where I had a one-on-one lunch with Gide. I remember the astonishment caused to me by the bad taste of the life-size, ocher-colored frescoes of figures which decorated the walls of the dining room. »
