“Dear friend, Will your premiere be on Tuesday? It seems unlikely. May we agree to dinner that day? Please reply quickly. Another thing: Lafontaine begs me to ask you for two bad seats for his wife and sister, anywhere, on the evening of the dress rehearsal. Let me know if that's possible. My best regards to you both. The novel Nana (ninth volume of the Rougon-Macquart) was published in book form in 1880. Adapted for the stage by William Busnach, the five-act play was first performed in Paris at the Théâtre de l'Ambigu on January 29, 1881.
