« I think that the "suspended ball" and the "invisible object"—that's its name—are among the most suitable things

A very beautiful letter from Giacometti to his friend Breton relating to the International Surrealist Exhibition, EROS, organised by André Breton and Marcel Duchamp at the Galerie Daniel Cordier during the winter of 1959-60.

"Dear André, Thank you for your letter, which I found here upon returning to Paris these past few days. I regret my long delay in replying. Your letter gave me great pleasure. I agree in advance with your choice for my representation in the exhibition you are planning, but I think that the "suspended sphere" and "the invisible object"—that's its name—are among the most suitable. The project published in Labyrinthe, on the other hand, seems very difficult to realize, and I believe it would be of very little interest. It's a drawing that accompanies a text, "The Sphinx, the Dream and the Death of T." I believe you read it at the time. It's impossible for me to say anything about it in this letter; we could discuss it when you return to Paris. In any case, I would be very happy to see you as soon as possible after your return. I hope to see you very soon, and with warmest regards, also from Annette to Elisa and to you." Alberto Giacometti.
