"Monsieur Lacroix, the two paintings you so perfectly describe are indeed mine. I learned they were to be auctioned, and as I was ill at the time, I informed several of my patrons, being unable to go to Paris myself. It would be most kind of you to tell me the price you paid for them and from whom you purchased them. Please believe me, Sir, yours sincerely. A. Sisley."
