"I think it's a very good idea for you to exhibit 'The Trap'."
A beautiful and long letter from Miró, enthusiastic about Breton's proposal to organize the EROS exhibition in Paris and confirming to him the loan of several works.
“My dear André, Please excuse my delay in replying, but I was away. Pierre Matisse spent a few days with me here in Palma and apologizes for not having asked you for the pages of the book, which I would have been delighted to sign for you. He had forgotten and promised to send it to me by mail. Now, let's move on to organizing the exhibition. Your idea of focusing on eroticism, which is an eternal theme, seems excellent to me. 1. I think it's a very good idea for you to exhibit 'The Trap.' I believe this canvas lends itself well to producing an ectachrome print. 2. For the large canvas or objects from between 1924 and the war, I can suggest the Tree Trunk that you own , which I consider very important, and the Door belonging to Coppley, whom you must know, though I don't know his address.” 3. To choose a recent work, you could contact Jacques Dupin (…) Dupin is preparing a major work on me, which means he has a very complete archive of my works. I will write him a note, although I am sure he will be happy to help you with this. He will not be back in Paris, however, until the beginning of September. He will also be able to provide you with the photographs you require. I have made preliminary studies for the engraving you requested , which I envision as a lithograph. Please tell me the latest possible date for engraving it. If I cannot get to Paris before then, I will ask Mourlot to send me the materials and I will arrange to produce the original here. You will receive the mock-up for the cover of your magazine, which you mentioned to me, very soon. Please give my regards to Elisa, and accept my deepest friendship. Miró.
The International Surrealist Exhibition, EROS, organised by André Breton and Marcel Duchamp, was held at the Galerie Daniel Cordier during the winter of 1959-60.
